In an interview after the NATO Summit, which took place in Madrid, capital of Spain, from June 29 to 30, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, Mr. José Manuel Albares celebrated the success of the meeting, equating it to such important events as the Yalta Conference in 1945, or the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
Let us remember that the Yalta Conference brought together Joseph Stalin (Soviet Union), Winston Churchill (United Kingdom) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (United States), shortly before the end of World War II, and is often considered the beginning of the Cold War between the two large winning blocs.
On the other hand, the fall of the Berlin Wall, was result of the popular revolt in East Berlin, capital of East Germany, marked the end of the Cold War, and the reunification of the two Germanies.
These are the verbatim words of José Manuel Albares:
"The Madrid summit, when we look at it from a historical perspective, will be at the level of the summit of Yalta, or the fall of the Berlin Wall".
Let us also remember that the NATO 2022 summit in Madrid was held under the important circumstance of the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, although it had already been brewing since November 2013 with the Euromaidan.
